Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, a masterful musical portrait of his circle of friends, is one of the most beloved works in the orchestral repertoire for good reason. Guest conductor Rebecca Tong (Resident Conductor of Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra) leads the Fresno Philharmonic in this ingenious and powerful work. We are thrilled to welcome back pianist Orion Weiss to perform Edward MacDowell’s epic Piano Concerto No. 2, which was premiered in 1889 and quickly established itself as one of the greatest American piano concertos. The program begins with Ascending Creatures by Indonesian composer Eunike Tanzil.
