Mural Guidelines

The Fresno Arts Council (FAC) staff and community members formed a Mural Committee, consisting of: Cindy Dunn, FAC Executive Director; Joyce Aiken, FAC Public Art Consultant; Donovan Byrn from Creative Fresno; Samantha Canales of the Muralistics; Howard Growden of the Freeway Mosaic Murals; Cynthia Cooper, volunteer for FCASH; Nancy Martinez of the Cultural Arts District;  met and discussed to provide the local arts and business community a mural guideline that can be used for mural projects in Fresno County.

The Mural Committee did not want to write an ordinance because it would be too legal and scare away the artists.  So the committee wrote guidelines that they felt were workable.  The guidelines are meant to help the artists and the building owners understand their rights and obligations.  Hopefully, if the artists follow the guidelines, they will not experience the problems that have arisen in the past.
