Community Enrichment
Grants and Workshops
The
Fresno Arts Council's Community Enrichment Program (CEP) Grant awards
non-profit organizations in the City of Fresno whose primary purpose is
to provide for the general enlightenment and entertainment of the
public through the production, presentation, exhibition, advancement or
preservation of art, music, theater, dance, history, literature,
physical sciences, natural sciences, or natural history.
In September 2004, the FAC received $1,277,745.00
from tax initiative funds to grant to cultural organizations in Fresno
City. This is an ongoing project until all the funds are disbursed (determined to be 2010).
Horizon Awards
In 1984, the Fresno Arts Council began recognizing leading individuals and businesses who have contributed to the enrichment of the arts and cultural life in the valley. Nominations for the Annual Horizon Awards are sent to over 2,000 on our mailing list, our 1,800 e-mail list and posted on FresnoArts.net (with over 6,000 visitors) and FresnoArtsCouncil.org.
The Spring of 2009 was the 24th year that FAC has given a reception for the award winners. We have honored over 150 citizens who have contributed toward the enrichment of life in our community through excellence in the arts. More than 2,000 people from the Valley have attended this event over the years. It is an opportunity for FAC to discuss our activities and inform the audience of our new programs.
Arts Workshops and Tours
We conduct tours of the art and architecture on the downtown Fulton Mall for school students and the general public. FAC is actively involved in working with the City to promote the preservation of the Fulton Mall as a pedestrian only street. We are part of a major effort to revitalize our downtown area with an emphasis on mixed use and new housing.
Workshops and Overall Guidance
The FAC provides technical assistance available to all artists and arts organization. Because each artists' needs varies, our Executive Director conducts personal meetings with artists of all types to assists them on a case by case basis. Also, FAC has ongoing technical assistance for inexperienced artists planning to exhibit their work at ArtHop or another venue.
In addition, FAC offers information workshops for the Community Enrichment Program grants application process as well as workshops for exhibitors interested in the Public Arts program such as The City Hall Exhibit.
Resource Library
FAC's resource library, which is available to the public, is located in our office and provides a wide range of publications and includes, among others, grant writing and sources, exhibition opportunities and applications, technical assistance in finances, and aid in establishing festival and educational programs.
