Detailed Information

Kristen R. Kennedy

As an artist, my artwork is created to express the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of being a woman. My current body of work is an intuitive exploration in clay sculpture, using the natural colors and attributes of clay to divine the feminine form. Like wood carvers who bring out the object already in the wood, I allow the clay to fold, twist, and settle into a natural formation of the feminine shape. Themes in nature of the role of women (daughter/mother/grandmother), the spirit of women (i.e. nurturer/life giver), the culture of women (i.e. weavers/dancers), and tribal/primal aspects of the archetypal women (i.e. medicine woman, shaman, healer, wise woman), have all been a starting point in my research and inspiration which has propelled me to create my view of life and women in art.
